What you will do

• Develop, improve, and validate satellite retrieval algorithms for clouds, precipitation, and atmospheric states.
• Build automated, documented workflows transforming raw observations into scientific and operational products.
• Collocate satellite data with radar, NWP, soundings, and in-situ measurements from aircraft and UAS.
• Support real-time and retrospective cloud analysis for cloud-seeding operations.
• Improve the reliability, speed, and scalability of satellite-data processing across the science team.
• Collaborate with ML and software engineers to transition research workflows into operational systems.

Requirements

• Degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, remote sensing, physics, applied mathematics, or related field.
• Strong scientific understanding of satellite observations, radiative transfer, retrievals, and measurement uncertainty.
• Proficiency in Python and quantitative analysis.
• Experience with multidimensional scientific data tools such as NumPy, SciPy, pandas, xarray, or Dask.
• Ability to build reproducible data-processing and validation workflows.
• Must be based in or able to work on-site in El Segundo, CA

Nice to have

• Graduate research in satellite meteorology, microwave remote sensing, or Earth observation.
• Familiarity with radiative-transfer models, retrieval inversion, or Bayesian estimation.
• Experience with cloud-scale or large-volume geospatial processing in HPC or cloud environments.
• Experience creating data products used in operational forecasting.
