Coder - Outpatient

TL;DR

Coder - Outpatient (ICD-10 CM/CPT): Reviewing medical records to abstract medical and demographic data, assign appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes, and support accurate unbilled coding reporting with an accent on HIPAA-compliant handling of confidential information and staying current with ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline updates. Focus on interpreting physician treatment plans and translating diagnoses and procedures into coded data for hospital and health system statistical and cash-flow needs.

What you will do

• Review and interpret medical information, physician treatment plans, and outcomes to determine appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract required data elements and enter coded/abstracted information into designated systems to meet statistical requests.
• Support efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to the unbilled coding report.
• Maintain coding accuracy by tracking ICD-10 CM/CPT guideline changes through training and coding resources.

Requirements

• High school/GED and successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• 1 year of hospital and/or physician coding experience.
• 1 year of coding experience at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year of coding experience involving major surgeries, observations, and/or E/Ms.
• Strong data entry skills and ability to work with healthcare team members.
• Must comply with HIPAA and company privacy/security policies.
