Security Specialist (Junior)

TL;DR

Security Specialist (Junior): Supporting enterprise cybersecurity operations through vulnerability management, security monitoring, and incident response with an accent on NIST compliance and federal cybersecurity best practices. Focus on analyzing vulnerability scan results, investigating security alerts, and maintaining documentation for the Department of Justice.

Location: On-site in Alexandria, VA (5 days/week). U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a DOJ Public Trust clearance.

What you will do

• Monitor enterprise cybersecurity tools and dashboards for suspicious activity.
• Investigate security alerts and assist with incident response efforts.
• Execute vulnerability scanning and track remediation progress.
• Analyze scan results and coordinate with system owners to ensure compliance.
• Maintain Standard Operating Procedures and update security records.
• Support cybersecurity reporting, metrics, and compliance initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, IT, or Computer Science.
• 2–3 years of experience in vulnerability scanning, remediation, and incident response.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOJ Public Trust clearance.
• Knowledge of NIST cybersecurity principles and federal best practices.
• Familiarity with SIEM platforms and enterprise vulnerability management tools.

Nice to have

• Certifications: Security+, CySA+, or AWS Cloud Practitioner.
• Experience with Tenable, Nessus, Splunk, ServiceNow, JIRA, or Microsoft Defender.
• Previous experience supporting Federal civilian agencies.
