What you will do

• Track live House and Senate floor actions, providing timely and precise coverage of policy and legislative procedures.
• Read, summarize, and analyze bill texts and amendments to prepare impartial, fact-based summaries.
• Collaborate with newsroom team members to provide detailed analysis of congressional committee actions.
• Collect and process legislative data and bill information accurately within strict deadlines.

Requirements

• 1+ year of research or writing experience in a political, policy-focused, or journalistic capacity.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Must be based in Washington, DC to work from the U.S. Capitol press gallery.
• Strong understanding of the U.S. legislative process and Capitol Hill operations.
• Ability to work a schedule that mirrors House and Senate daily and weekly operating hours.
• Ability to write objectively and maintain high attention to detail under pressure.
