What you will do

• Generate and investigate research ideas to solve obstacles in continuous learning for production agents.
• Collaborate with the OpenPipe team to validate research directions across real customer tasks.
• Design and implement LLM post-training methods including reinforcement learning and policy optimization.
• Set technical direction and lead complex cross-functional initiatives.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to the full stack from CUDA kernels to high-performance dashboards.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. person (citizen, green card holder, refugee, or asylee) due to export control regulations.
• 8+ years of experience in machine learning or applied research, or a PhD with 4+ years of industry experience.
• Deep expertise in LLM post-training, reinforcement learning, and policy optimization.
• Proven ability to take research ideas from hypothesis through implementation to production.
• Strong research judgment and ability to design rigorous experiments.

Nice to have

• Publications or open-source contributions in reinforcement learning or LLM post-training.
• Deep experience with distributed training and large-scale model training systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Megatron, Temporal, or FastAPI.
