TL;DR

Trade Compliance Specialist: Support day-to-day export and import compliance activities in Canada with an accent on restricted-party screening, end-use reviews, export license determinations, and shipment hold/release decisions. Focus on preparing Canadian export license applications, responding to government inquiries, and documenting procedures and compliance data to improve trade compliance workflows, including AI-enabled processes.

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (hybrid)

What you will do

  • Perform daily export compliance reviews of orders and shipments, including restricted-party screening, end-use reviews, export license determinations, and shipment hold/release decisions.
  • Prepare and support Canadian export license applications and respond to Canadian government inquiries.
  • Answer daily import/export questions from Logistics and other cross-functional partners.
  • Research companies, products, and regulations; document and summarize findings to support trade compliance decisions.
  • Write procedures for daily work, run routine compliance checks, and help maintain trade compliance applications and trade master data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in international business, supply chain, customs, trade compliance, legal studies, political science, or a related field.
  • At least six months of legal or regulatory compliance experience, including document preparation for government submissions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to quickly learn new regulations, products, and software/applications.
  • Ability to use AI for research and other work activities; experience with AI agents is an asset.
  • Experience preparing forms or declarations submitted to regulatory agencies and familiarity with trade compliance processes.
  • Eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology is required; employment may be contingent on citizenship/permanent residency status or prior license approval from the U.S. Commerce Department (or applicable federal agency).
