Software Engineer II - Backend (Observability)

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and scale backend services and support tools for distributed tracing.
• Develop services that ingest large volumes of data, analyze spans and traces, and publish data for downstream UI queries.
• Participate in architectural decisions and collaborate with product and experience teams to influence the distributed tracing roadmap.
• Create automation and tooling that improve scalability and deployment efficiency.
• Work in an Agile, DevOps-oriented environment, owning services and participating in on-call rotations.
• Use AI tools for development, code review, and production issue investigation.

Requirements

• Experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and production-scale applications.
• Strong experience with OOP languages such as Kotlin, Java, or Go, with the ability to adapt to different languages and frameworks.
• Familiarity with asynchronous programming, streams, event-based flows, task queues, and message queues.
• Experience delivering production code in fast-paced Agile environments.
• Collaborative working style, shared code ownership, adaptability, and curiosity about AI.
• Proficiency in English and ability to work from Barcelona, Spain.

Nice to have

• Open source contributions.
• Experience with build and test automation.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry or related observability technologies.
