Data Engineer Staff (Data Engineering): Deliver end to end full stack data solutions across the complete data processing pipeline with an accent on scalable batch & streaming pipeline design, data architecture/modeling, and secure operations for analytics and mission-critical applications. Focus on building ETL/ELT processes, enforcing data governance and security controls, and tuning performance while supporting DoD/SOFSA compliance.

What you will do

• Build, test, and maintain robust data pipelines (batch & streaming) to clean, transform, and aggregate raw data into analytics-ready data stores.
• Design and maintain data architecture and models (conceptual, logical, physical) with security, backup, and recovery specifications.
• Deploy, monitor, and optimize ETL/ELT processes and reporting/analytics layers; tune performance and resolve production incidents.
• Implement data quality checks, metadata management, data governance standards, and access-control/security best practices.
• Support data risk identification and mitigation, including participation in Critical Design Reviews and liaison with Integrated Product Teams.
• Integrate new data technologies (e.g., IBM Cloud Pak for Data) into the SOFSA enterprise environment and provide status reporting on pipeline health and risks.

Requirements

• US Citizenship required to be considered for a position requiring a government security clearance.
• Clearance level: Secret.
• Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Proficiency with Hadoop, Java, Python, SQL, Hive, and PIG for data exploration; strong data-mining and data-warehousing principles.
• Knowledge of DataOps processes and ability to implement data security controls (access control and encryption safeguards).
• Ability to collect, store, monitor, and validate test data; assess methodological limitations and recommend mitigation strategies.
