Location: Hybrid (Amsterdam, Netherlands) — must be able to work from the office 2 days a week

What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain back-end services, APIs, and platform features using PHP.
- Optimize relational data models, manage database migrations, and write performance-conscious queries.
- Implement and maintain automated tests using PHPUnit to ensure high code quality.
- Refactor and modernize existing systems, including legacy components.
- Collaborate with front-end engineers, product owners, and QA to deliver customer-facing features.
- Participate in technical planning, code reviews, and production support.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional back-end development experience with strong PHP expertise.
- Proficiency with modern PHP frameworks (Laravel is a strong plus).
- Experience with Doctrine, relational databases, and query optimization.
- Proven track record with automated testing (PHPUnit) and CI/CD workflows.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, authentication, and integration patterns.
- Must be based in or able to work from the Amsterdam office 2 days per week.
Nice to have
- Experience with Zend/Laminas or modernizing legacy PHP applications.
- Knowledge of Node.js or TypeScript-based back-end frameworks.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging.
- Experience with cloud-native delivery on GCP, GKE, or AWS.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code).
