Software Engineering Specialist (Network Modelling)

TL;DR

Software Engineering Specialist (Python/React): Designing and building a web-based application to modernize network modelling and optimization tools with an accent on cloud migration, API development, and secure-by-design principles. Focus on transforming legacy desktop tools into scalable cloud-hosted solutions and implementing Infrastructure as Code.

Location: Hybrid (Ipswich, UK) — Flexible 3 days a week at the Ipswich site, 2 days remote.

What you will do

• Design and build a web-based platform to make network modelling and optimisation tools more accessible and scalable.
• Transform existing desktop-based tools into modern, cloud-hosted solutions for Fixed Networks.
• Set up and maintain cloud infrastructure, including virtual machines, databases, and secure environments.
• Develop APIs, data pipelines, and integrations to unify multiple data sources into a single modelling environment.
• Implement secure-by-design principles, identity access management (IAM), and single sign-on (SSO).
• Improve code quality, automation, and deployment pipelines to ensure reliable delivery.

Requirements

• Experience building software using Python and JavaScript (React, NextJS, TypeScript).
• Experience with on-prem or private cloud environments, including hosting applications on virtual machines.
• Commercial background in security best practices, including IAM and secure application development.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Must be based in or able to work from the Ipswich site 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience building or consuming APIs.
• Knowledge of containerisation tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to design SQL databases and schemas.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, automation, and version control.
• Interest in algorithms, optimisation, or modelling problems.
