Senior Data Scientist (Personalized Medicine)

TL;DR

Senior Data Scientist (Medtech/AI): Developing data science methods to extract signals from biomedical and optical data with an accent on signal processing and multivariate analysis of spectroscopic datasets. Focus on designing robust validation strategies and improving signal quality through tight feedback loops with hardware instrumentation.

Location: Hybrid in Porto, Portugal (minimum of 5 days per month on-site)

What you will do

• Own the full data science workflow from problem framing to delivery for specific biomedical projects.
• Analyze proprietary datasets to identify patterns, variability, and opportunities for improved performance.
• Develop statistical and ML methods tailored for noisy, high-dimensional, and small-sample data.
• Improve preprocessing pipelines and signal quality by collaborating with hardware and instrumentation specialists.
• Apply chemometric and multivariate analysis to spectroscopic data (e.g., Raman, FTIR).
• Contribute to research publications, patents, and presentations at leading conferences.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of post-PhD experience in academia or industry working on quantitative data problems.
• Strong expertise in applied statistics, predictive modeling, and experimental design.
• Experience working with raw data from instrumentation to optimize signal quality and acquisition protocols.
• Must be based in or able to work hybrid in Porto, Portugal.

Nice to have

• Experience in chemometric or multivariate analysis of spectroscopic data such as Raman or FTIR.
• Experience mentoring junior team members.
