Lead Data Engineer

TL;DR

Lead Data Engineer (SQL/PostgreSQL/Elasticsearch): Designing and evolving end-to-end data systems for an enterprise recruiting platform with an accent on multi-tenant data modeling, schema/index decisions, and high-volume operational workloads. Focus on raising data quality across a mature codebase while partnering with Product, Design, Engineering, and DevOps to deliver customer-focused improvements.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain data systems powering candidate data, recruiting events, workflow automation, and integrations.
• Own schema design, indexing, and migrations with decisions that are expensive to reverse.
• Build and enhance large-scale search/indexing using Elasticsearch, including mapping, relevance, and re-indexing at scale.
• Develop data engineering pipelines and analytics/BI tooling using Python.
• Work hands-on with AWS data-adjacent services (Lambda, S3, ElastiCache/Redis, RDS) to support operational workloads.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, and DevOps to deliver practical, customer-focused improvements in an AI-assisted engineering workflow.

Requirements

• Strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience: schema design, query optimization, migrations, and comfort with PL/pgSQL.
• Elasticsearch (or comparable large-scale search/indexing): index design, mapping, relevance, and re-indexing at scale.
• Ruby / Ruby on Rails proficiency working in a large, mature Rails monolith and engines (or proven ability to ramp quickly into a large unfamiliar codebase).
• Python for data engineering: pipelines, scripting, and analytics/BI tooling.
• Hands-on AWS experience with data-adjacent services such as Lambda, S3, ElastiCache/Redis, and RDS.
• Experience designing multi-tenant data models for tenant isolation and data segregation, plus senior engineering judgment and mentoring.

Nice to have

• GraphQL API design and tooling.
• Background/async job systems (Resque, Sidekiq, or similar).
• Streaming/event-driven experience (Kinesis, Kafka, webhook-driven ingestion).
• Java experience for isolated auth/services work.
• SRE/DevOps background with hands-on Kubernetes.
• Experience in regulated/compliance-heavy environments (FedRAMP, SOC 2, PII handling).
