Staff Software Engineer - Confluent Cloud Traffic Engineering (Cloud Networking)

Salary: $161,000–$299,000 per year

What you will do

• Build, architect, develop, and operate the Confluent Cloud network data plane platform.
• Improve performance, scalability, reliability, resilience, security, and cost efficiency for customer Kafka traffic.
• Drive technical initiatives across networking, cloud infrastructure, and multi-tenancy.
• Independently lead software projects and technically guide engineers delivering production systems.
• Build on open-source software and engage with upstream communities.
• Troubleshoot and improve operations across microservices, containers, virtualization, and all three major cloud platforms.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong distributed systems design and development fundamentals and experience operating large-scale systems.
• Understanding of storage, networking, operating systems, and other systems operations fundamentals.
• Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or another statically typed language.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience building and managing Layer 7 proxies, especially cloud-native proxies such as Envoy.

Nice to have

• Open-source contributions to CNCF projects.
• Kubernetes networking experience.
• Strong networking background combined with software engineering experience.
• Master’s degree or education in computer science or a related field.
