TL;DR
Staff Backend Engineer (AI): Building and scaling LLM-based systems for insurance submission processing with an accent on high-volume unstructured data extraction and architectural decision-making. Focus on designing robust backend systems, deploying LLMs at scale, and solving complex data processing challenges in a high-stakes industry.

Location: Must be based in or able to work from New York, NY (Hybrid)

Salary: $230,000 – $290,000 USD

What you will do

  • Design and architect scalable backend systems for processing billions of unstructured data points.
  • Lead the technical direction for the Submission Processing team.
  • Deploy and optimize LLM-based systems in production environments.
  • Collaborate on end-to-end project ownership from design to implementation.
  • Solve complex, novel problems in data extraction and decision automation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with AWS and serverless technologies (Lambda, EC2).
  • Proven experience deploying LLMs in production at scale.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
  • Strong fundamentals in system design and asynchronous workflows.

Nice to have

  • Experience with document pipelines and processing large-scale data.
  • Background in other object-oriented programming languages.
