TL;DR

AI Research Fellow (AI): Conducting frontier research in open-source LLMs and applied AI with an accent on rigorous experimentation and publication. Focus on building research culture, solving complex ML challenges, and contributing directly to the Baseten technical roadmap.

Location: Must be based in San Francisco for the duration of the 3-month program

Salary: $5,000 per month ($15,000 total stipend)

Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, providing flexible infrastructure and developer tooling for frontier AI models.

What you will do

• Conduct 3 months of full-time, rigorous research in an industry setting.
• Collaborate 1:1 with a senior researcher mentor.
• Produce original research suitable for publication at top venues like ICML or NeurIPS.
• Contribute research insights that directly shape the Baseten product and technical roadmap.
• Present findings and participate in the development of the Base Labs research agenda.

Requirements

• Must be based in San Francisco for the duration of the program.
• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a PhD in ML, AI, statistics, or a related field.
• Demonstrable publication record or research portfolio showing original, rigorous thinking.
• Ability to operate with high autonomy without a predefined roadmap.
• Passion for democratizing intelligence and building open-source research culture.
