Backend Software Engineer

What you will do

• Deliver backend microservices features, refactoring, and deprecation work.
• Write well-tested, maintainable, robust, secure, and efficient code that meets the Engineering Code Bar.
• Own the full software development lifecycle: scoping, design, coding, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance.
• Provide operational support by investigating root causes and learning how systems behave in production.
• Collaborate through code reviews, daily standups, and team discussions; seek feedback and improve work quality.
• Work with stakeholders to understand business and customer value and deliver the right solutions.

Requirements

• Foundational experience with Java or a similar object-oriented language.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot.
• Understanding of relational databases and SQL fundamentals.
• Strong relational database skills, especially PostgreSQL, including query optimization and schema design.
• Ability to write clean, simple code that others can maintain and extend.
• Comfort working in a team with code reviews, constructive dialogue, and shared ownership of quality.

Nice to have

• Experience with REST API development.
• Exposure to Docker or containerized development environments.
• Familiarity with Git and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Experience with AWS services.
