TL;DR

Research Scientist (Computational EM): Developing the mathematical foundation for electromagnetic superintelligence and optimizing solvers for high-fidelity hardware simulation with an accent on PDE-based machine learning approaches. Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles

Salary: $150,000 - $250,000 per year

What you will do

  • Optimize and extend core EM solvers to improve throughput and physical fidelity for foundation model training.
  • Integrate mathematical insights from PDEs into ML architecture decisions, including basis functions and structure-preserving discretizations.
  • Partner with product and platform engineering teams to deploy research artifacts into production environments.
  • Author high-impact research publications for top-tier venues like IEEE TAP, NeurIPS, and ICML.
  • Drive external collaborations with academic labs and industry partners to advance the field of ML-for-PDE.

Requirements

  • PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computational Electromagnetics, Applied Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven track record of published, mathematically rigorous work on PDE solvers.
  • Deep familiarity with EM solver families such as FEM, FDTD, MoM, and BEM.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing using C/C++ and Python, including experience with sparse linear algebra and MPI.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States or willing to relocate.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with neural-operator work applied to PDEs (PINN, Fourier neural operators).
  • Contributions to open-source EM or PDE solvers like Palace, MEEP, or FEniCS.
  • Experience with HPC ecosystems and large-scale message-passing workloads.
