TL;DR

Commercial Legal Counsel (SaaS): Partnering with Sales teams to structure, negotiate, and close complex transactional agreements for a high-growth enterprise SaaS platform with an accent on revenue recognition, data privacy, and security. Focus on streamlining contracting processes through AI-enabled tools and providing strategic legal guidance to senior business leaders.

Location: Must be based in Sydney or Melbourne with an in-person requirement of at least 3 days per week.

What you will do

  • Partner with Sales teams to structure, negotiate, and close complex SaaS transactional agreements.
  • Provide sound legal and business advice to senior leadership on commercial issues.
  • Manage risk and ensure compliance needs are accurately reflected in contracts.
  • Develop and deliver training on legal issues and contract processes.
  • Support continuous improvement and automation of contracting workflows using AI tools.
  • Respond promptly to the demands of an active technology sales team.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of legal experience, including in-house experience at a high-growth enterprise SaaS company.
  • Law degree and current Australian practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one).
  • Strong background in SaaS-centric issues such as revenue recognition, tax, security, and data privacy.
  • Exceptional analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in-person in Sydney or Melbourne at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting the sale of generative AI offerings.
  • Experience with highly regulated cloud customers (e.g., FinServ, healthcare).
  • Experience in public sector contracting at state or federal level.
  • Familiarity with contract lifecycle management (CLM) solutions.
