Cost Consultant, Mechanical

Location: Toronto or Montreal, Ontario/Quebec, Canada; hybrid work model

Salary: $70,000–$100,000 CAD per year, excluding bonuses, equity, benefits, and other incentives.

What you will do

• Calculate quantities and measurements from drawings and design documentation for conceptual and detailed estimates.
• Prepare CIQS elemental and Uniformat cost estimates, front-end cost reports, project descriptions, and assumptions.
• Review change orders, lifecycle costs, project statistics, functional areas, tenders, owner budgets, and contractor estimates.
• Complete design efficiency analysis and trade and elemental take-offs.
• Research market pricing and cost data through telephone and online sources.
• Prepare estimates and reports for final review and sign-off by the Associate Director.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Science, Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
• 2–3 years of estimating or cost consulting experience.
• Working toward a PQS, MRICS, and/or Cost Engineers designation.
• Knowledge of RICS Project Monitoring guidelines, CIQS measurement standards, provincial lien acts, CCDC contract conditions, LEED, Toronto Green Standards, energy management, and net-zero or low-carbon strategies.
• Strong communication, presentation, leadership, negotiation, conflict-resolution, and client-service skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, SharePoint, and CostX or similar cost-estimating software.
