Staff Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote from the UK or the Netherlands

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for multiple Ads Foundational Representations workstreams and mentor machine learning engineers.
• Develop embedding models for ads, posts, users, products, and other Reddit entities, including aggregation pipelines, two-tower architectures, and sequence models.
• Use LLMs, VLMs, and foundational models to build representations for advertising, targeting, ranking, and advertiser-facing products.
• Build data processing, model training, inference, and automation pipelines.
• Evaluate models through benchmarks, recommender-system metrics, and online experiments.
• Improve the reliability, scalability, monitoring, testing, and performance of machine learning systems.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on experience designing, training, evaluating, testing, and deploying production machine learning models.
• Staff-level technical leadership, including mentoring, setting engineering standards, and leading complex cross-functional projects without direct management authority.
• Experience with content-rich NLP or computer vision problems at scale and embeddings-based solutions.
• Experience with advertising, search, or recommender systems and a data-driven approach to machine learning development.
• Proficiency with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Ability to work remotely from the UK or the Netherlands.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Airflow, BigQuery, Ray, Kubernetes, Kafka, and GCP.
• Hands-on experience building or fine-tuning LLMs.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading complex technical projects.
