Engineering Manager (Backend)

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and mentor a team of up to 8 engineers, fostering a culture of growth and technical excellence.
• Stay hands-on with the code, participating in design reviews and contributing to architectural decisions.
• Own the roadmap and operational excellence for ECS services, ensuring high reliability and performance.
• Partner with Product Management to prioritize the backlog and make trade-offs between feature delivery and technical debt.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with SRE, Security, and Data Platform teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Manage on-call rotations and ensure system observability and security compliance.

Requirements

• Must be based in Prague, Czechia, and able to work in a hybrid office environment.
• Full-time, permanent role; not eligible for contractors or remote work from other countries.
• 1+ years of management experience or substantial tech-lead experience with senior engineers.
• 6+ years of software development experience in backend and large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong problem-solving, design, and debugging skills with a focus on performance.
• Demonstrated success in owning and delivering complex technical projects from start to finish.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with Go.
• Production experience with Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Prior exposure to email/calendar protocols (IMAP, SMTP, Microsoft Graph, Google Calendar APIs).
