TL;DR

What you will do

• Assist in testing and validating core server infrastructure templates for a major operating system upgrade from Ubuntu 22 to Ubuntu 26.
• Use configuration management tools (Chef) to audit, update, and refactor code base definitions for KVM and Kubernetes node deployments.
• Contribute to a greenfield architecture project by building and documenting experimental, self-managed Kubernetes sandboxes using Talos or k0s.
• Develop and maintain internal tooling, helper scripts, and CI/CD pipeline components to streamline image building.
• Participate in team stand-ups, technical grooming, and architecture reviews to learn production troubleshooting.

Requirements

• Enrollment in a Computer Science or Information Systems program, or a strong portfolio of self-taught systems administration projects.
• Solid grasp of the Linux command line, file system hierarchy, and basic system configuration.
• Basic proficiency in at least one scripting language: Go, Python, or Bash.
• Conceptual understanding of basic networking protocols, including IP routing, DNS, and SSH.
• Strong desire for automation and an engineering mindset for troubleshooting in sandbox environments.

Nice to have

• Exposure to containerization concepts such as Docker and basic Kubernetes resources.
• Curiosity about immutable operating systems like Talos.
• Familiarity with Git workflows and version control.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP) or local virtualization (KVM, VirtualBox).
• Knowledge of configuration management or provisioning tools like Chef, Ansible, or Terraform.
