PhD Research Intern (Volumetric Representation)

TL;DR

PhD Research Intern (Volumetric Representation): Work on real-world volumetric representation problems for advanced consumer multimedia experiences with an accent on Gaussian Splatting and interactive 3D/4D reconstruction. Focus on building and evaluating machine-learning and physically based rendering approaches, developing prototypes/demos, and producing research outputs.

What you will do

• Research volumetric representation methods, specifically Gaussian Splatting, for multimedia entertainment use cases.
• Develop and test interactive 3D experiences such as relighting and material interaction.
• Build machine-learning-driven geometry/material representations and rendering approaches.
• Create prototypes and demos for research applications and validate results.
• Produce research outputs through technical reports and publications.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled PhD student with at least 1 year completed in Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven research ability with results demonstrated via projects, prototypes, patent filings, and peer-reviewed papers.
• Experience as a researcher (internships, full-time roles, or lab work).
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Availability: full-time Monday–Friday for 12 weeks between September 2026 and December 2026; start date is September 21, 2026.

Nice to have

• Experience creating demos and prototypes for research applications.
• First-author publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
• Experience writing technical reports and/or publications.
