Software Engineer III (Identity & Auth)

Location: Onsite 5 days per week in Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA

What you will do

• Develop and maintain core authentication features including sign-in, registration, MFA, and account recovery.
• Own and evolve a real-time risk engine to detect and mitigate credential attacks and account takeover attempts.
• Implement security best practices for credential handling, session management, and token issuance.
• Integrate with MFA providers, internal identity services, and third-party downstream relying parties.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Security teams to translate complex requirements into production-ready code.
• Improve codebase health by addressing technical debt and enhancing shared components.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional software development experience with a strong emphasis on full-stack web engineering.
• Daily use of AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) for at least one year.
• Experience with authentication and identity standards such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, or FIDO2/WebAuthn.
• Proficiency in a modern server-side framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel).
• Experience building fraud detection, real-time risk engines, or abuse mitigation systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with React or other modern frontend frameworks.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced product environment with iterative releases and A/B testing.
