Design Group Manager (Upper Structures)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week or as determined by the hiring leader. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What you will do

• Lead a large group of Engineering Designers and DLTs delivering design work for vehicle programs within the Exteriors Engineering Design Team.
• Provide technical leadership and guide teams toward strong technical solutions and successful vehicle-program execution.
• Manage staffing, workload assignment, priorities, employee development, performance evaluation, recognition, and compensation planning.
• Communicate GM policies, procedures, leadership and safety messages, and functional initiatives through regular meetings and presentations.
• Ensure required training and career-development initiatives are completed while improving team capability and capacity.
• Remove roadblocks, resolve issues, approve work-related records and schedules, and manage the math development process.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology.
• 8+ years of experience in design, including leadership experience.
• Experience in product development and design/release activities.
• Strong knowledge of engineering systems and processes, including GxDP, GSTS, VIS Mock-up, GPDS, engineering release systems, GD&T, specifications, Global BOM, and product and program content.
• Solid grounding in core engineering and design principles.
• Ability to propose technical alternatives and balance competing priorities.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring others.
• Broad understanding of administrative and engineering tools used by the team and cross-functional partners.
• Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, or other work authorization requiring company immigration support.

Nice to have

• Experience in Body Structures or Closures.
• Experience using NX and Teamcenter.
• Experience in Design/Release engineering.
• Broad knowledge and operational understanding of GM policies and procedures.
