Senior AI Engineer (Legal AI)

Location: Hybrid: 2 days a week in the office in Mechelen, Belgium, 3 days from home.

What you will do

• Design and implement AI-driven product features end-to-end using LLM APIs.
• Build and optimize RAG systems, including document parsing, semantic chunking, and retrieval pipelines.
• Develop scalable, maintainable backend systems using FastAPI and Python.
• Design and implement agent orchestration systems for complex, multi-step legal workflows.
• Build infrastructure for evaluations and benchmarking, including continuous monitoring using tools like Langfuse.
• Collaborate with Product and Legal Engineering to rapidly prototype and refine new AI use cases.

Requirements

• 4-5 years of relevant work experience in AI engineering.
• Deep experience building products that integrate LLMs via APIs.
• Proficiency with Python and FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of software engineering and security best practices.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Must be based in or able to work hybrid in Mechelen, Belgium.

Nice to have

• Experience with TypeScript and frontend development.
• Fluency in German.
• Experience with AI coding agents like Cursor and Claude Code.
