TL;DR

Fleet Engineer (Robotics): Ensuring reliability and continuous improvement of a deployed robotic fleet with an accent on hands-on failure analysis and root cause investigation. Focus on diagnosing electro-mechanical failures, analyzing system logs, and driving corrective actions with cross-functional teams.

Location: Based in Austin, TX (requires 15-20% travel)

Company

hirify.global builds helpful robots that work safely and autonomously in real-world environments.

What you will do

  • Lead triage and bench/lab failure analysis for mobile bases, charging systems, and sensor hardware.
  • Diagnose failures from component level (electrical, mechanical, firmware) to system level using 5-why, FMEA, and 8D methodologies.
  • Analyze fleet data and logs to define problem statements and validate hypotheses quantitatively.
  • Drive short- and long-term corrective actions (hardware, software, operational) with engineering, operations, and vendors.
  • Build fixtures, instrumentation, and bench test setups to accelerate debugging workflows.
  • Document debugging procedures and findings to contribute to fleet reliability standards.

Requirements

  • Must be based in Austin, TX.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in hands-on electrical debugging (schematics, multimeter, oscilloscope) and mechanical debugging (tolerances, fits, drawings).
  • Experience with system log analysis to reconstruct events and isolate failures.
  • Strong quantitative debugging skills and the ability to frame hypotheses and design discriminating tests.

Nice to have

  • Experience with robotics stacks (ROS or equivalent) and sensor calibration.
  • Familiarity with networking (Ethernet, CAN bus) and firmware.
  • Experience with compute platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson/Orin and GPUs.
  • History of driving supplier corrective actions and providing design feedback to vendors.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test and validation-rig design.

Culture & Benefits

  • Opportunity to solve complex, messy problems in real-world robotic deployments.
  • Collaborative environment working across software, hardware, operations, and product engineering teams.
  • High-ownership role focused on reliability at scale and continuous improvement.
