TL;DR

Lead Software Test Engineer (eCommerce): Providing technical leadership in application quality engineering and performance testing for a global eCommerce platform with an accent on distributed software systems and production readiness. Focus on designing automation strategies, conducting load and stress testing, and optimizing system scalability.

Location: Chicago or Peoria, Illinois, USA. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Salary: $128,470 - $208,770

What you will do

  • Design and lead functional testing strategies across UI, API, and integration layers using modern automation tools like Playwright.
  • Execute performance testing strategies including load, stress, and scalability testing using k6, JMeter, and Artillery.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of performance bottlenecks using logs, metrics, and observability data.
  • Integrate automated regression and performance gating into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab).
  • Partner with development teams to influence architecture decisions and improve application testability.
  • Mentor engineers and drive the adoption of shift-left testing practices throughout the SDLC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in software quality engineering, system testing, or performance engineering.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Playwright (or similar UI frameworks) and performance tools (k6, JMeter, Artillery).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and application architecture.
  • Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting large-scale eCommerce or customer-facing digital platforms.
  • Proficiency with observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, or OpenSearch.
  • Experience working in AWS cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with HCL Commerce or headless architecture ecosystems.
