Location: Must be based in New York or San Francisco (Hybrid, 4 days in office)

Salary: $130,000 – $180,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Partner with product and engineering teams to ensure AI tutors and features are pedagogically sound and improve learning outcomes.
• Apply evidence-based instructional strategies, including scaffolding, retrieval practice, and adaptive feedback, to AI features.
• Define and shape how student understanding and progress are measured, focusing on personalization and mastery.
• Collaborate with curriculum teams on standards alignment and the cognitive demand of student work.
• Develop and contribute to the evaluation of AI systems through human review and automated evaluations.
• Represent the company's pedagogical approach to district administrators, researchers, and partners.

Requirements

• Degree in learning sciences, educational psychology, cognitive science, or a closely related field.
• Strong working knowledge of K-12 instruction, curriculum standards, and assessment design.
• Experience designing and evaluating learning interventions using quantitative methods (e.g., randomized studies).
• Ability to engage with technical topics such as machine learning evaluation, recommendation systems, or psychometrics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for both research and product contexts.
• Must be based in or work from New York or San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Classroom teaching experience in a K-12 setting.
• Experience working in an edtech product environment or research-practice partnership.
• Published research on AI tutors, intelligent tutoring systems, or adaptive assessment.
• Experience with MTSS or other tiered support frameworks.
• Hands-on experience running efficacy studies with school districts.
