TL;DR

Lead Software Engineer (Backend/Fintech): Developing and delivering innovative payment solutions and services for customers and business with an accent on low-latency, resilient, and secure payment processing. Focus on shaping architecture across business-critical services and driving DevOps maturity via CI/CD and automation.

Location: Hybrid (London). Must spend at least two days per week (or 40% of time) at an office site

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership for business-critical payment services including Faster Payments, CHAPS, and COP.
  • Own end-to-end technical outcomes, ensuring quality, resilience, and delivery predictability at the team or lab level.
  • Lead complex design decisions for low-latency, secure, and compliant payment solutions.
  • Manage cross-team dependencies and technical risks impacting the Payments Services Platform.
  • Drive DevOps maturity through improvements to CI/CD, monitoring, automation, and quality controls.

Requirements

  • Strong expertise in microservices technologies, especially Spring Boot, JSON, Kafka, and RESTful APIs.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering resilient and scalable payment services in complex, regulated environments.
  • Deep knowledge of event-driven architectures and non-functional requirements like latency and recoverability.
  • Technical proficiency with SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub, and Jenkins.
  • Experience with at least one cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP, or IBM Cloud).
  • Ability to scale technical impact through mentoring engineers and influencing stakeholders.
