What you will do

• Define technical direction for the AI platform layer (orchestration, evaluation, routing) or the consumer product data layer.
• Lead architecture decisions and own technical RFCs to set the quality bar for the engineering team.
• Collaborate directly with OpenAI researchers to integrate breakthroughs in agents and reasoning into production at scale.
• Write, review, and debug production code for a high-scale distributed system.
• Recruit and mentor senior engineers to grow the technical organization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of production engineering experience.
• 3+ years at senior/staff level with system-wide technical influence.
• Proven experience building and owning large-scale distributed systems (10M+ users).
• Deep expertise in AI/ML systems (LLM serving, RAG, agent runtimes) or high-scale data infrastructure.
• Must be based in or able to work on-site in San Francisco or Palo Alto (5 days/week).

Nice to have

• Top 20 CS degree (Master's/PhD).
• Startup experience.
• Significant open-source contributions or published technical work.
