What you will do

• Own the end-to-end voice AI architecture, from Twilio media streams through LLM orchestration to TTS output.
• Design and implement multi-agent systems using tool calling, agent handoffs, and shared conversation state.
• Build and optimize real-time audio pipelines, including WebSocket streaming, codec handling, and VAD configuration.
• Architect observability infrastructure for voice-specific metrics such as per-segment latency and ASR error rates.
• Solve complex voice challenges including turn-taking timing, silence detection, and medical term recognition.
• Drive platform reliability by implementing multi-provider LLM failover and graceful degradation paths.

Requirements

• Must be based in the US (Remote)
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years building production voice or conversational AI systems.
• Deep experience with voice AI pipelines (telephony, STT, LLM, TTS) and production agentic architectures.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js with strong async programming patterns and experience with NestJS.
• Hands-on experience with telephony systems such as Twilio (media streams, SIP, IVR).
• Production experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI Realtime API, Claude) and STT/TTS providers.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare or biotech environments (HIPAA, PHI handling, BAA compliance).
• AWS infrastructure experience (ECS Fargate, Lambda, DynamoDB, Bedrock, Kafka/MSK).
• Background in real-time systems, WebSocket lifecycle management, and streaming protocols.
• Familiarity with RAG architectures, vector stores, and embedding models.
• Experience with Datadog APM or LLM Observability tools.
