What you will do

• Lead the strategy and architecture of tax calculation services supporting VAT, sales tax, and withholding compliance.
• Design and evolve distributed backend services for payments and tax processing to improve reliability and accuracy.
• Develop frontend applications using Vue.js to support both internal and customer-facing workflows.
• Build and operate scalable RESTful APIs and integrations with external payment processors and tax engines.
• Drive cross-functional alignment between engineering, product, finance, and tax teams on complex compliance initiatives.
• Utilize AI-assisted workflows (GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development and debugging velocity.

Requirements

• Deep experience in Java-based backend architecture, RESTful APIs, and operating services in production.
• Proficiency with AWS and relational databases.
• Experience contributing to frontend applications using Vue.js or similar modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Proven ability to lead ambiguous cross-team initiatives and influence technical direction.
• Must be based in or be able to work from Lisbon, Portugal.
• Ability to learn complex business rules quickly, especially in tax or fintech domains.

• Previous experience in tax, fintech, payments, or other compliance-heavy domains.
