Security Engineer (Detection & Response)

TL;DR

Security Engineer (Detection & Response): Designing and implementing logging and alerting systems to detect malicious activity across endpoints, infrastructure, and cloud environments with an accent on threat hunting and incident response. Focus on building automation tools, investigating security events, and analyzing adversary TTPs.

Location: Hybrid. Must be based in and work from the office 4+ days per week in Los Angeles or Palo Alto.

Salary: $209,000–$313,000 annually (Zone A)

What you will do

• Design and implement logging and alerting systems for endpoints, infrastructure, networks, and cloud environments.
• Build automation tools and strategies to improve threat hunting and intrusion response.
• Investigate alerts and triage potential security incidents.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to drive response efforts during incidents.
• Analyze adversary TTPs and build threat intelligence on APTs and cybercrime.

Requirements

• 6+ years of security experience (or 5+ with Master's, 2+ with PhD).
• Strong development skills in Python and/or Go.
• Advanced knowledge of OS internals (macOS, Windows, Linux).
• Core competency in Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP.
• Must be based in Los Angeles or Palo Alto to meet the 4+ days per week office requirement.

Nice to have

• Demonstrated knowledge in threat hunting and automated detection logic.
• Practical experience in a BeyondCorp model.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with stakeholders at all levels.
