TL;DR

Junior Detection & Response Engineer (Cybersecurity): Monitoring, investigating, and responding to cyber threats within the Cyber Defence Centre with an accent on security alert analysis and threat detection tuning. Focus on identifying suspicious activity, triage of incidents, and building practical knowledge of attacker TTPs.

Location: Hybrid (at least 2 days per week in office) in Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds, or Manchester

What you will do

  • Monitor and analyze security alerts to identify and escalate genuine cyber threats.
  • Perform initial triage and investigation by gathering evidence from logs, alerts, and enrichment sources.
  • Support detection engineering by reviewing alert behavior and tuning existing detections.
  • Utilize and improve response playbooks for effective incident mitigation.
  • Assist with threat hunting and modeling to understand attacker techniques and behaviors.
  • Contribute to post-incident reviews to ensure continuous improvement of cyber defenses.

Requirements

  • Formal training in cybersecurity (degree, apprenticeship, professional certification, or equivalent practical experience).
  • Foundational understanding of security operations and SIEM platforms.
  • Ability to analyze security logs, alerts, and events to identify relevant information.
  • Awareness of attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Must be based in or able to work from offices in Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds, or Manchester.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rota and regular weekend working.
