TL;DR

Senior Technical Artist (Tools & Pipeline): Define and elevate end-to-end workflows across creative disciplines like Character Art, Animation, Environment Art, Audio, and VFX with an accent on scalable tools, artist support, and production efficiency. Focus on building maintainable Python tools, evaluating pipelines in Unreal Engine 5, translating artistic needs into technical requirements, and mentoring Technical Artists.

Location: Sydney-based team (Australia), partnering globally with team members abroad

What you will do

  • Define and improve end-to-end workflows for creative disciplines including Character Art, Animation, Environment Art, Audio, and VFX.
  • Collaborate with Technical Art and Engineering to evaluate tools, communicate production requirements, and support artist needs.
  • Stand up and maintain scalable artist tools and workflows for multiple parallel production teams.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to artists, collect feedback, and recommend improvements.
  • Mentor other Technical Artists, participate in Tech Art community events, and foster knowledge sharing through documentation.
  • Build relationships across disciplines to identify pain points and guide pipeline and system improvements.

Requirements

  • 6+ years professional experience as technical artist in games or related industries.
  • Experience in content creation and tool development for DCC tools like Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max, Adobe Suite, ZBrush, Houdini, Substance Suite, or Blender.
  • Professional experience working in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Highly proficient in Python tool development for scalable, maintainable artist tools.
  • Experience with modern UI frameworks such as PySide & PyQt.
  • Strong understanding of art workflows, translating artistic needs to technical requirements, and communication between art and engineering.

Nice to have

  • Experience with C++ and UMG for Unreal Engine 5.
  • Excellent UI/UX design and front-end development (Qt/PyQt).
  • Understanding of performance optimization for modern hardware.
  • Experience on large-scale AAA games with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with character rigging and animation pipelines.
