TL;DR

Senior Android Developer (Robotics): Design and development of GIS-rich planning and control applications for drone swarms with an accent on geospatial intelligence, real-time telemetry, and tactical interfaces. Focus on fusing map data, terrain models, vehicle telemetry into intuitive tactical pictures and implementing low-latency command pathways over constrained networks.

Location: Fully Remote (US only; requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence due to ITAR/EAR restrictions and no sponsorship). Travel up to 25% for field testing and demonstrations.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain Android applications for swarm planning, monitoring, and tactical control.
  • Integrate and render GIS data layers and DTED elevation models into map-based mission-planning interfaces.
  • Implement real-time telemetry, command, and control over UDP, TCP, WebSockets, MQTT across mesh radios and cellular links.
  • Collaborate with autonomy, backend, and field teams to ship features for operational use and support field exercises.

Requirements

  • 7+ years professional Android development, primarily Kotlin (Java secondary).
  • Strong proficiency in modern Android stack: Jetpack, coroutines, lifecycle-aware architecture.
  • Hands-on GIS integration on mobile: map tiles, vector overlays, WGS84/MGRS/UTM coordinates.
  • Experience with DTED for line-of-sight, viewshed, terrain following.
  • Android mapping libraries: osmdroid, MapLibre, Mapbox, Google Maps SDK.
  • Real-time low-latency pipelines: sockets, WebSockets, MQTT, gRPC, Protobuf; multithreading, offline-first.
  • UI design for rugged devices: sunlight visibility, gloved operation, unreliable networks.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence required (ITAR/EAR); background check and E-Verify.

Nice to have

  • BS in Computer Science.
  • ATAK plugin development, TAK ecosystem, Cursor on Target.
  • Drone control, ground stations, MAVLink experience.
  • Military/defense/first-responder deployments.
  • MIL-STD-2525 symbology.
  • Offline map caching, geospatial libraries (GDAL, GeoTools).
  • U.S. security clearance.
