What you will do

• Provision and manage AWS RDS instances entirely through Terraform, including parameter groups, IAM authentication, and read replicas.
• Own database reliability by designing runbooks, defining SLOs, and setting up alerting for slow queries and replication lag.
• Automate database operations such as schema migrations, backup validation, and patching via CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with development teams on query tuning, indexing strategies, and connection pooling using PgBouncer or RDS Proxy.
• Secure the data layer by enforcing encryption, IAM database authentication, and credential rotation via AWS Secrets Manager.
• Build reusable Terraform modules for self-service provisioning and participate in the on-call rotation for incident response.

Requirements

• Strong SQL proficiency for complex queries, performance tuning, and analyzing EXPLAIN plans.
• Experience with AWS services: RDS Aurora, Secrets Manager, IAM, CloudWatch, VPC, and KMS.
• Expertise in Terraform, specifically writing modules, state management, and remote backends.
• Scripting skills in Python or Bash for automation and operational tooling.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) for infrastructure and database migrations.
• Must be based in or able to work in Toronto, Canada (Hybrid)

Nice to have

• Deep PostgreSQL knowledge, including vacuuming, replication, and pg_stat views.
• Experience with Kubernetes sidecar patterns and secrets injection.
• Familiarity with zero-downtime migration tools like Flyway or Liquibase.
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments (PCI DSS / SOC 2).
