System Software Engineer (Hardware)

TL;DR

System Software Engineer (Hardware): Designing, building, and validating low-level system software and firmware for AI-native silicon with an accent on manageability, health, and hardware diagnostics. Focus on developing BMC software, optimizing firmware interfaces, and managing the acceptance path for partner-delivered system software.

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid: 3 days/week onsite)

What you will do

• Design and maintain low-level firmware and system software, including BMC, Redfish services, and platform drivers.
• Own the integration and acceptance of partner and vendor software releases through requirements definition, code review, and CI.
• Develop automation and CI infrastructure for testing and managing systems in the lab.
• Define and debug hardware management protocols (I2C, SMBus, PCIe, etc.) across accelerators and host systems.
• Build system health monitoring, remote diagnostics, and recovery paths for production data centers.
• Collaborate with hardware, security, and networking teams to define software contracts and unblock bring-up.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in low-level system software, firmware, or device drivers.
• Strong proficiency in C, C++, or Rust for building reliable software for real hardware.
• Experience with Linux-based hardware platforms, OpenBMC, or kernel drivers.
• Deep knowledge of hardware interfaces such as PCIe, I2C, SPI, UART, and JTAG.
• Proven ability to debug live hardware using protocol analyzers and firmware traces.
• Must meet U.S. export control laws and regulations.

• Familiarity with platform security including secure boot, firmware signing, and attestation.
