Principal Software Engineer (Simulation & Digital Twin)

TL;DR

Principal Software Engineer (Simulation & Digital Twin): Leading the software architecture for GM’s manufacturing Digital Twin & Simulation Platform with an accent on plant models, AMR/cobot simulation, and material flow. Focus on designing modular, distributed simulation architectures and integrating complex systems across PLM, CAD, and MES.

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end architecture for the manufacturing Digital Twin & Simulation stack, including AMR/cobot and equipment simulation.
• Define enterprise reference architectures, APIs, and data contracts for use across plants and business units.
• Architect scalable data schemas and pipelines for ingesting floor data for operational and simulation twins.
• Design modular, distributed simulation architectures leveraging Kubernetes, GPU clusters, and data lakes.
• Drive multi-year roadmaps and lead cross-functional initiatives, aligning vendors and internal teams.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers while serving as the principal technical voice for simulation technologies.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of principal-level technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in 3D or manufacturing simulation environments such as Unity, Unreal, or NVIDIA Omniverse.
• Proven experience integrating systems across PLM/CAD, MES, and PLC/controls.
• Strong proficiency in C++, C#, or Python for designing APIs and data models.
• Experience with high-scale simulation workloads in cloud and on-prem environments (Kubernetes, GPU clusters).

Nice to have

• Experience with industrial automation, including AMRs, cobots, and virtual commissioning.
• Familiarity with Teamcenter or Siemens Technomatix Process Simulate.
• Experience with SiL/HiL setups and CI/CD-integrated simulation workflows.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity and data governance for connected factory systems.
