Program Manager (Automotive)

TL;DR

Program Manager (Automotive): Leading cross-functional teams to develop and launch products and services for Japan OEMs with an accent on customer interface, P&L management, and risk mitigation. Focus on driving new business opportunities (PoC/RFI/RFQ) and ensuring stable production through the entire product lifecycle.

Location: Tokyo, Japan. Eligible for remote work full-time with occasional trips to the office or hybrid setup.

What you will do

• Manage the customer interface and communication strategy with Japan OEMs, ensuring requirements are clearly understood and distributed.
• Lead cross-functional teams (sales, design, sourcing, manufacturing, quality) to deliver products from commitment to stable production.
• Drive new business opportunities by interfacing with customers on PoC, RFI, and RFQ projects.
• Negotiate program schedules, manage resource budgets, and ensure product costing targets are achieved.
• Proactively identify and manage engineering risks to prevent issues before they impact the timeline or quality.
• Serve as the internal expert on Japan OEM development processes and engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in product development or program management in software, hardware, telematics, or electronic manufacturing.
• Proven track record of launching at least one product through the full lifecycle into stable production.
• Fluent in English and Japanese (written and verbal).
• Experience with cross-functional team leadership, negotiation, and P&L management.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% (domestic and international).

Nice to have

• Master of Science, Technical degree, or MBA.
• PMP Certification.
• Background as an automotive supplier or Tier1 electronics company.
• Direct experience with applicable automotive customers.
