Audio Technician

TL;DR

Audio Technician: Setting up, operating, and maintaining audio equipment for high-quality sound recording in music, voiceovers, podcasts, and live broadcasts with an accent on signal flow, troubleshooting, and equipment management. Focus on ensuring optimal audio levels, collaborating with producers, and providing technical support for events.

Onsite: Currently Washington, DC (moving to Alexandria, VA). Must be able to work flexibility including occasional evenings and weekends.

What you will do

• Set up and operate audio equipment including microphones, mixing consoles, signal processors, and recording software for music, voiceovers, podcasts, and broadcasts.
• Monitor audio levels, adjust EQ, manage signal flow, and collaborate with producers to achieve desired sound.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and manage inventory of audio gear, recommending upgrades as needed.
• Provide technical support, set up speaker systems, and resolve issues during sessions and live events.
• Prepare weekly/monthly reports on tasks, equipment status, and process improvements.
• Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with copyright regulations.

Requirements

• 3+ years experience in professional recording studio or broadcast environment.
• Strong understanding of signal flow, audio routing, patching, EQ, compression, reverb, microphone types, and placement.
• Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, in fast-paced environment with irregular hours.
• Physical ability to lift/move equipment and sit/stand for extended periods.
