Location: Fully remote, seeking candidates located in or willing to support the New England, Long Island, and New York City region. Regular travel required (2–3 times per week, up to 6 hours from home).

What you will do

• Conduct fire and explosion origin and cause investigations following NFPA 921 and industry best practices.
• Examine scenes, collect and preserve evidence, document with photos, sketches, and notes.
• Analyze fire dynamics, burn patterns, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
• Prepare clear, defensible investigative reports and maintain evidence chain of custody.
• Collaborate with engineers, experts, attorneys, and claims professionals.
• Travel to sites as needed, manage multiple cases, and stay current with standards and codes.

Requirements

• Located in or able to support New England, Long Island, and New York City region; regular travel (2–3 times/week).
• High school diploma or equivalent; 5+ years fire origin and cause investigation experience.
• NAFI-CFEI certification required; IAAI-CFI preferred.
• Knowledge of NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033; experience with insurance and litigation.
• Strong technical writing, analytical skills, and professional communication.
• Valid driver’s license, clean record, eligible for expert testimony; able to work in hazardous environments with PPE.
• Meet state-specific licensing for fire investigations across jurisdictions.
