Hardware Project Lead (Automotive)

TL;DR

Hardware Project Lead (Automotive): Manage intelligent cockpit development projects and lead cross-functional teams of electrical, mechanical engineering, validation, procurement, and quality with an accent on hardware deliverables, BOM management, and project execution from RFQ to production launch. Focus on mitigating risks, optimizing scope/schedule/resources, and ensuring profitability through supplier collaboration and technical analysis.

Location: Ariake - Tokyo, Japan. Flexible working arrangements including remote days (hirify.global FLEX). Willing to travel up to 10% domestic and international. Requires clean driving record and successful background investigation.

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality hardware for customer projects on time and within budget.
• Own BOM, ED&D, CAPEX, and resource allocation from RFQ to production launch, ensuring EBIT targets.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, manage risks/changes, and drive technical phases.
• Work with sourcing for supplier selection, benchmarking, and profitability alignment.
• Track metrics, communicate status/issues, and handle escalations/maturity reviews.
• Drive cost improvements, target alignment, and best practices across projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 12+ years leading automotive projects
• Experience leading project or engineering teams
• Experience in electro-mechanical system development including thermal requirements
• Knowledge of PLM methodologies and PM processes

Nice to have

• Masters in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience developing Infotainment and ADAS platforms
• Exposure to Hardware, RF, and Thermal simulations
• Broad intercultural experience and communication skills
• PMP or similar certification
