Engineering Manager (DevTools)

What you will do

• Lead the DevTools team to build internal developer platforms (IDPs) and services that remove cognitive load for product teams.
• Provide technical direction for shared tooling and guide design and architecture decisions with clear tradeoffs.
• Partner with Product Management and Platform Engineering to define and operate containerized application systems and CI/CD workflows.
• Oversee service reliability and ensure systems meet established SLOs and SLIs.
• Coach and develop engineers through growth plans and lead hiring and workforce planning.
• Manage the team using agile principles, tracking DORA metrics and DevEx signals to measure platform impact.

Requirements

• Must be based in Johannesburg, South Africa (Hybrid office attendance required).
• 2+ years of experience in leading a team.
• 6+ years of strong background in software engineering with Javascript, NodeJS, React, and Relational/Non-Relational Databases.
• Strong professional experience with Kubernetes and containerization.
• Experience with ArgoCD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Pulumi.

Nice to have

• Experience with Backstage or similar internal developer portals.
• Familiarity with tracking DORA metrics and Developer Experience (DevEx) signals.
