Controls Engineer

TL;DR

Controls Engineer: Design, development, and implementation of robust control systems for manufacturing processes with an accent on optimizing production efficiency, system reliability, manufacturability, and safety. Focus on configuring and programming PLC systems, Fanuc robots, Siemens HMIs, electrical troubleshooting, and integrating new technologies into existing architectures.

Location: Onsite in Detroit/Hamtramck plant, Michigan. GM does not provide immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) now or in the future. May require off-shift production support.

What you will do

• Configure, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and components.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting and testing of control systems, panels, and equipment.
• Program, debug, and improve Fanuc robots.
• Program and troubleshoot Siemens HMIs.
• Integrate new technologies into existing architectures and support manufacturing, maintenance, and quality teams.
• Continuously improve quality, cost, responsiveness, and safety in a cross-functional team.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in PLC programming or Fanuc robot programming.
• HMI – Siemens TIA Portal.
• Knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting ability.
• Servo drive systems – Bosch, Rockwell Powerflex, and Kinetix.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in industrial networking protocols – Profibus, ProfiNet, TCP/IP, EtherNetIP.
• HMI – Ignition.
• PLC – Allen Bradley Rockwell.
• Servo drive systems – Rexroth.
• Robotic experience – Fanuc.
• Vision systems - Matrox, Fanuc, Keyence.
