Senior Gas Trader (Energy Trading)

Senior Gas Trader (Energy Trading): Identify, develop and execute proprietary trading opportunities across global gas markets with an accent on Asian LNG (JKM) and North American natural gas (Henry Hub). Focus on designing end-to-end trading strategies, actively managing risk positions within VaR limits, and generating consistent P&L through deep understanding of fundamentals and market dynamics.

Location: Hybrid in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Physical presence in the office is essential. Work 40% office, 40% home, 20% flexible; abroad up to 3 weeks/year with approval.

Salary: €110,000 - €170,000 gross annual (including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, bonus or profit sharing).

What you will do

• Develop and execute proprietary gas trading strategies across short- and long-term horizons.
• Trade European gas markets with exposure to JKM and Henry Hub.
• Manage risk positions within defined VaR limits and handle drawdowns professionally.
• Translate market fundamentals into actionable trades and contribute to desk P&L.
• Collaborate with analysts and traders to validate ideas and share insights.
• Continuously improve execution, timing, and risk utilisation.

Requirements

• 5–10 years trading experience, at least 3 years in proprietary trading (recent and relevant).
• Quantitative or economics-based academic background.
• Experience managing meaningful positions, drawdowns, and real risk capital with consistent results.
• Strong understanding of gas market fundamentals, JKM/HH pricing dynamics, and LNG contracts.
• Confident in challenging, convincing, and collaborating in a senior team.
• Performance-driven mindset with ownership and disciplined execution.

Nice to have

• Experience trading cross-commodity spreads.
• Knowledge of LNG shipping economics and chartering.
• Experience at recognised trading organisations (utilities, trading houses, banks, funds).
