What you will do

• Own critical infrastructure end-to-end from design and implementation to rollout, operation, and iteration.
• Build and operate performant backend systems in Rust or C++ supporting core research workflows.
• Design distributed data and serving systems handling partitioning, replication, consistency, retries, backpressure, and failure isolation.
• Debug production bottlenecks in latency, throughput, contention, hot spots, and overload.
• Operate business-critical services via on-call, incidents, postmortems, observability, and zero-downtime migrations.
• Improve Kubernetes-based services reliability with resource tuning and failure handling.
• Partner with engineers and researchers to deliver fast, reliable systems.

Requirements

• Based in San Francisco, CA with hybrid model (3 days/week in office).
• Track record owning operationally critical systems end-to-end in ambiguous environments.
• Strong hands-on experience building performance-sensitive backend systems in Rust or C++.
• Comfort with low-level aspects: concurrency, async execution, memory, serialization, I/O, networking, profiling, failure analysis.
• Experience designing, building, or operating distributed systems or databases at scale.
• Hands-on production operations including incidents, observability, rollout safety.
• Strong judgment balancing quality, speed, risk, and impact.
