TL;DR

Staff ML Engineer (AI): Building robust evaluation and release infrastructure for clinical AI systems with an accent on MLOps, observability, and data pipeline reliability. Focus on designing scalable platforms that enable product teams to iterate on model quality and inference performance across complex healthcare workflows.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to San Francisco, hybrid 3x/week.

Salary: $250,000–$300,000 per year

What you will do

  • Develop automated grading, release gates, and eval dataset versioning for cross-product consistency.
  • Create debug tooling including encounter replay and regression diff views to accelerate issue reproduction.
  • Architect chart context retrieval layers and data pipelines for model-ready patient history.
  • Build preference infrastructure to support site-specific customization at scale.
  • Manage performance and reliability for critical in-house models with clear SLOs.
  • Collaborate with product pods to optimize the overall ML development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of total software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of specific focus on ML infrastructure, platform engineering, or data systems.
  • Staff-level experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
  • Strong backend fundamentals in Python or TypeScript.
  • Experience building eval systems, data pipelines, or ML observability infrastructure.
  • Able to commute to the San Francisco office 3x/week.
