Senior ML Engineer (Payments)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required as agreed with the manager.

Base pay: $191,000–$223,000 USD per year, plus potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Build and operate LLM agents, real-time anomaly detectors, personalization engines, and other AI solutions for the Payments organization.
• Design, train, deploy, and monitor large-scale AI applications for batch and streaming workloads.
• Develop low-latency, reliable services with automated monitoring, retraining loops, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with product, engineering, operations, and data science teams to define requirements, select architectures, and measure business impact.
• Mentor teammates and help establish engineering, model governance, and production AI standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience in applied AI/ML, with an MS or PhD in a relevant field included.
• Strong programming and data engineering skills in Python and Java.
• Expertise in prompt engineering, fine-tuning with LoRA and RLHF, hallucination mitigation, safety guardrails, and online/offline testing.
• Hands-on experience with at least three areas including PyTorch or TensorFlow, scalable inference, vector search, Kubeflow, Airflow, Spark, Ray, or Kafka.
• Experience designing, deploying, and monitoring production AI systems with drift, cost, latency, and automated retraining controls.
• Must be eligible to work remotely from a US state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
